Mission Statement:

WE LEARN (Women Expanding / Literacy Education Action Resource Network) promotes women's literacy as a tool for personal growth and social change through networking, education, action, and resource development.

WE LEARN addresses the barriers, consequences, and impact of gender-based differences on women’s learning and how those difference affect women’s success and their ability to progress socially, economically and politically. Our goals include: to create widespread visibility and support of issues related to women’s literacy and adult basic education; to expand the availability of women-centered literacy materials and curriculum resources; and to be a strong and sustainable constituency-centered organization. WE LEARN is the only national U.S. organization directly addressing the issues of adult women’s literacy and the needs of women in adult basic education. WE LEARN is an educational non-profit 501(c)3 membership organization. All donations and memberships are tax deductible.

Goals of WE LEARN - (2004-2006)

  

Goal I
WE LEARN creates widespread visibility and support of issues related to women's literacy and adult basic education.

  • Objective 1: To expand the network of individuals and/or organization involved with WE LEARN
  • Objective 2: To provide and promote educational opportunities to raise awareness and deepen knowledge and understanding of women's literacy issues
  • Objective 3: To build leadership capabilities of members in the WE LEARN network
  • Objective 4: To engage in and encourage others to conduct & promote research on women’s literacy
  • Objective 5: To develop and maintain a (media) presence for WE LEARN and women's literacy

Goal 2
WE LEARN expands the availability of women-centered literacy materials and curriculum resources.

  • Objective 1: To maintain and update a clearinghouse of women-centered literacy materials and curriculum resources
  • Objective 2: To encourage the development of new women-centered literacy materials and curriculum resources
  • Objective 3: To develop the viability and interactivity of the WE LEARN website

Goal 3
WE LEARN will be a strong and sustainable organization.

  • Objective 1: To improve WE LEARN's organizational structure
  • Objective 2: To develop financial stability and sustainability
  • Objective 3: To expand and strengthen use of technology
